When using the following tips first and foremost; be careful that you have isolated any hazards that may make your Hinged Security/Barrier door installation in any way dangerous. Some of the likely hazards you may incur would be paper wasp nests, overhead lights and power cords, trip hazards, sloping floors and roofs. Good preparation and hazard isolation can make a job safer and enjoyable and in most cases will result in a far better installation.
Proper forward thought processes in the form of the required tools can minimise the length of time that will take for your installation of your Hinged Security/Barrier Doors and therefore, will also in most cases result in a superior installation.
The following would be a list of some of this author’s helpful hints and problem identification guidelines;
Prior to measuring and installation identify if there are any variances in the widths of your door jamb and establish if these variances are on the hinged side or the locking side. If you have identified that there is a variance in the middle of the hinged side then the factory will make this side of the door straight and you will then have two options to correct. The first will be to order hinge Packers to put the line the middle hinge in the case of the middle being larger than the top or bottom. If in fact you find that it is actually smaller in the middle than the only option available is to recess and let in the middle hinge. (It is always safer and wiser to retain the middle hinge if at all possible, however in very bad door jambs that are quite bowed in the middle it may not be possible and this hinge will have to be removed or relocated.)
Always be on the outside looking in when you are measuring and looking to install.
Order a bottom bug seal with your Seconline Security/Barrier Door. The reason we advise that all of our hinged doors have a bottom bug seal is to enable both left and right sides of the door to be made to the shortest measurement and therefore keep the door square, as we do not make doors out of square. Most measuring imperfections in the lengths of doors will come at the base of the door and a bottom bug seal which is self-adhesive will enable you to minimise these imperfections and stop crawling insects from entering from the bottom seal or ground.
If at all possible have someone assist you during the install so as to hand tools, hold the door in position to predrill the hinge holes, and fundamentally add an additional set of eyes and knowledge to the whole entire process.
Take your time during the installation process. If possible plan to install your door when you will have the least amount of interruptions and able to maintain maximum focus.
Try to undertake the installation process when there will be the maximum amount of natural lighting. Do not try to install if you have diminishing daylight or an inability to add artificial light.
